Title: Nameserver Requirements For These Domains

dnsau - August 5, 2003 01:26 AM (GMT)
Nameservers for the registration and updating of domain names must meet the following criteria:
1. Nameservers must have a minimum of two(2) IP addresses in different zones:
(i) ns1.abc.com xxx.xxx.66.123
ns2.abc.com xxx.xxx.67.124
(ii) ns1.xyz.com xxx.xxx.66.124
ns2.xyz.com xxx xxx.133.66
Some domains reside on four(4) servers. When registering or updating you must include all servers.

2. Nameservers from Webhosts with the following nameservers:
ns1.abc.com xxx.xxx.xxx.123
ns2.abc.com xxx.xxx.xxx.124
these are unacceptable as the IP reside in the same C Block, often on the same server box.

3. It is the responsibility of the applicant for the domain name to give correct information about the nameservers. Incorrect information will cause delays.

I have a domain, lonelpoet.com.ru and my DNS servers are from EveryDNS.net. Unfortunately it don't work and they don't respond to my requests for their support at all.
Now I want to change my name servers and requested the name server change through dnsau.com.ru site about 15 hours ago. How long will it take for the name server change?
This forum used have a lot of informative sections and now it all disappeared. Are you guys doing ok?

dnsau - August 5, 2004 06:55 AM (GMT)
The old forum was destroyed when the server was burnt out at the data center. This Forum was a backup and has now taken over as the main forum for the service.

It takes 24 hours for the new servers to be recognised by all ISPs through out the planet. In other words for the Internet to resolve.

hello
i m having some problems with nameservers!
i tried to register for a domain puting in the name servers of afraid.org(n1,ns2,ns3,ns4)
I got a mail back that nameservers must be in diferent zones :o
Can someone explain to me what shel i do??
register with http://www.everydns.net/ and put their nameservers in????
I dont get it

If you read the first post it outlines nameserver requirements. The IPs at afraid.org are all within the same C block:
ns1.......69.42.89.57
ns2.......69.42.89.56
ns3.......69.42.89.55
ns4.......69.42.89.54.....where 69.42.89 is the C block and ns1-ns4 range from 54-57 which means the IPs are all within that C block that also tells you that most probably all nameservers are on the one machine. If this machine goes down all nameservers go down. Therefore the domain does not function.
The requirements are that you must have two IPs that have different geographical zones e.g. say ns1....... had the IP 69.42.89.57 and ns2...... had the IP 82.35.135.75 ..each IP is from a C block in different zones therefore this configuration is correct as it signifies that there are two machines involved one in the US and the other in Europe. If the US machine goes down the Europe machine keeps the domain name alive.
You can also have 2 different IPs in different zones say in the US, for example,
ns1.....69.42.89.57 and ns2........64.350.32.50 these IPs would have to exist on 2 machines because of the IP zone location.
The nameservers at Everydns are situated in different zones 3 are situated in different zones within the US and the 4th is in The Netherlands.

If you want to know more about nameservers and dns go to:

This may sound like a repeatation of an early message. I am copying the early message and modifying it as the problem is very similar.

I have a domain, lonelpoet.com.ru and my DNS servers are from EveryDNS.net. Unfortunately it don't work and they don't respond to my requests for their support at all. Now I changed from EveryDNS.net to MYDOMAIN.Com and right now it is resolving to the redirection I am doing in Mydomain.com. But the servers and IP remains the same with EveryDNS.net. I cannot make any other changes unless these servers change. I did a nameserver change request yesterday and still haven't seen any changes made. The other support forum also is down. How long will it take for the name server change? You said it is 24 hours but now it is more than 24 hours and nothing happened. I am just curious.

i am just wondering, what happens if we dont noe the ip addresses but only the name server e.g: ns1,ns2

dnsau - January 27, 2005 04:32 PM (GMT)
Go to a DNS site on the web and ping the nameservers, it will give you the IP number. Look up "ping" on google it will give you sites where you can use this service.

i want to register a domain name and i was wondering is there a control panel to this domain that we get? how do we go about changing dns info if we needed to or for any other purpose?

dnsau - April 4, 2005 05:49 AM (GMT)
This is a free service. If you use a free DNS provider;i.e Afraid.org, Mydomain.com, Xname.org just to mention a few of them. Your account will be provided with a control panel of sorts. We do not provide control panels, because of the cost factor.

FiReStOrM - April 4, 2005 09:18 AM (GMT)
If suppose i intend to change the nameservers , is that possible?

dnsau - April 5, 2005 05:30 AM (GMT)
On all the registration sites there is a link "Nameservers" where change of nameservers are submited. This is a seperate site especially for nameserver changes.

dnsau - April 5, 2005 05:37 AM (GMT)
Amendment to Afraid.org's nameservers. The nameservers at Afraid.org are now suitable for use without a secondary external service, due to a revamp of their infrastructure. These are dealt fully in another post within this category.
